Island Surf and Skate Hosts CJ Hobgood Meet and Greet

On November 12, 2016 Island Surf and Skate Hosted a CJ Hobgood Meet and Greet in order to raise awareness and money for our lagoon. The event was a success, raising $896.00 in raffle ticket sales alone for the Marine Resource Council. World famous surfer CJ Hobgood met hundreds of people, as prizes were raffled off and our youth was educated on the importance of environmentalism.

Hobgood is the founder of Salty Crew, a clothing line and advocate of finding refuge in the sea. Hobgood stated that his aim is to show kids that no matter what the conditions of the water there is always something they can do in it. Whether it's surfing, fishing, or diving, CJ is an advocate of having a good time in the water.

"The lagoon is really sick right now and it is the community's job to fix it," said Leesa Souto Executive Director of Marine Resources Counsel. "I am delighted to have Island Surf and Skate be a partner in this."

From Spy Sunglasses to homemade gift bags filled with bathing essentials, the giveaways were generous and filled the crowd with excitement. Aidan Armellini was the lucky victor of the day, winning CJ's Quiet Flight competition board.

Overall, Island Surf and Skate created a major impact on our community by raising awareness to our youth, and donating to our environment.
